Clinical trials

Clinical trials are research programs that test new drugs, drug combinations and delivery methods with the aim of finding safer, more effective treatments.

One strategic goal of LMICS is the development of a regional research strategy aimed at:

  • improving participation of regional patients in clinical trials that provide access to new treatments and therapies,
  • improving the output of the region in social and public health research into cancer, and
  • facilitating the development of a regional research agenda through enhanced cooperation and collaboration.

The Bendigo Health Oncology Unit conducts various cancer clinical trials, supported by a Clinical Trials Coordinator. Further information is available by contacting the Bendigo Health Oncology Unit on (03) 5454 8815.

Cancer Trials Australia (CTA) provides a service to support the conduct of cancer clinical trials within Bendigo Health. It is anticipated that CTA's involvement will substantially increase the availability of cancer trials to patients within the Loddon Mallee region.

Further information about Clinical Trials is available at the website developed by the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre.

The Victorian Cancer Agency is a new Victorian Government funded organisation, established to link cancer research with patient care. It aims to promote, enhance and facilitate cancer research, and its translation to clinical practice to enable the delivery of evidence-based cancer services in Victoria.
